Everyone experiences stress at some point. There are different ways to handle stress and some work better for some people than others. Here are some unique ways of getting your stress under control.

Color therapy is an effective method for some people. Something as simple as painting your nails in a soothing color can be enough to start melting the stress away. The colors that help most people feel calmer are green, pink, blue and yellow.

It isn’t just colors that can help you relax. Aromatherapy is another effective way of lowering your stress levels. Spices, candles, and the scent of certain foods can bring you a level of calmness you may not experience otherwise. When you fill your home, office or vehicle with scents that appeal to you, it helps lure you into a sense of serenity. When you come home for the day, your house should smell wonderful when you walk through the door.

Other ways to handle stress that have nothing to do with therapy include calling a valued friend. Discussing your worries and problems with someone who knows you and cares about you is a great first step in taking away feelings of stress. If your friend can make you laugh or take a walk down memory lane with you, it is likely you will both be better off afterwards.

Sometimes the only thing that will take your stress away is getting out and experiencing activities you can’t do indoors. A walk through a park can be a soothing experience when you are surrounded by green grass and chirping birds. Watching trees sway in the wind or even sitting down and looking at a body of moving water will lower your blood pressure and instantly make you feel calmer.

Other ways to cope with stress include massages from a professional in the field. Even a 45 minute Swedish spa treatment has been proven to release chemicals into your body that automatically boost your mood and your level of physical comfort. Your immune system also becomes stronger, helping you battle stress in the future. The stronger your immune system is the less likely you are to suffer from stress.

Often, engaging in something monotonous but easy can help alleviate your stress. Many people while crochet or knit when they need to relax. Once you have learned these skills you will find that practicing them can result in better blood pressure and make your heart rate lower. When your heart isn’t racing you can let you body rest and this will likely restore you to the way you felt before stress took over.

These are just some of the different ways to handle stress. You may have to experiment until you find what works for you. Anything that you enjoy and that helps you avoid fear and anxiety is something you should strive to do more of in your life. Reducing stress can be crucial to long term health.
